Crazy Patchwork Quilts ‘Crazy Patchwork’ is a method of patch working which uses random fabric shapes which are normally added to a foundation piece of fabric. These shapes are then often embellished with embroidery and additional items such as buttons or ribbons.
Crazy Patchwork was very popular in the late 1800’s when it is suggested many women stitched items from left over scraps from making clothing for the family.
During this time velvets and other heavy weight fabrics were often used; due to this crazy patchwork was often not put on to wadding or batting as was traditional for other methods of patchwork. Due to the variety of fabrics used (and the weight) many crazy patchwork quilts were not actually quilted, and the time consuming method resulted in smaller items being made and larger quilts often being made using more traditional designs.
Here at Perfect Patchwork we have used ‘Crazy Patchwork’ for cushions, this versatile patchwork design is very flexible and can be utilised in developing multi colour quilts, cushions etc. Perfect Patchwork will be adding ‘Crazy Patchwork’ baby quilts and Lap Quilts in the near future, and we are currently designing Bags in this lovely embellished Patchwork Design. |
